For Android, a Snapdragon 700 series processor or better will give smooth gameplay at 2x internal resolution for most games. The minimum Snapdragon 835 can run most games at 1x resolution. For PC, single-core CPU performance matters more than core count because 3DS emulation is primarily single-threaded. A CPU with a Passmark single-core score above 2500 will run nearly all games at full speed.

How to Use Azahar Emulator Quick Setup Guide

Step 1 — Install Azahar

Download Azahar for your platform from the table above. On Windows, run the MSYS2 installer and follow the prompts. On Android, install from the Play Store or manually install the Vanilla APK file. On Mac, download the universal build, open the .zip, and drag Azahar to your Applications folder.

Step 2 — Prepare Your Game Files

Azahar works with .cci, .cia, .cxi, and .zcci game files. If you have .3ds files from Citra, rename the file extension from .3ds to .cci this is all most unencrypted files need. For encrypted .3ds files, you first need to decrypt them using GodMode9 on a modified 3DS. Do not use .zip or .7z compressed files extract them first.

To save storage space, Azahar can compress your .cci games to .zcci format which saves roughly 50% of file size. On PC, go to Tools then Compress ROM File. On Android, long press a game in your library and select Compress.

Step 3 — Add Your Games to Azahar

On PC, open Azahar, double-click in the main window, and navigate to your game folder. On Android, tap Get Started during first setup or go to Settings to add a game directory later. Azahar will scan the folder and show all your games in the library.

Step 4 — Configure Settings

For most games, default settings work well. For graphics, choose between Vulkan and OpenGL. Vulkan is faster on most modern hardware and now includes a full shader cache in v2125. Step 5 — Transfer Saves from Citra or Lime3DS

If you used Citra or Lime3DS before, your saves transfer automatically. Go to File then Open Azahar Folder. You will see cheats, load, and sdmc folders. Replace them with your backed-up folders from your old emulator. Close and reopen Azahar and all your save data will be there.

For most Android users in 2026, Azahar is the better choice. It is the only one still being developed and its feature set online multiplayer, Amiibo, Vulkan shader cache, custom drivers is far ahead of Citra MMJ. Emulators are legal in most countries. Azahar the software is legal. What is AzaharPlus?

AzaharPlus is an unofficial fork of Azahar that adds two extra features the main Azahar project does not have. First, it supports all game file formats including .3ds so if you have a large collection of .3ds files and do not want to rename them to .cci, AzaharPlus handles them directly. Second, it can download system files from official Nintendo servers without needing a physical 3DS console.

AzaharPlus updates at the same pace as Azahar and shares the same compatibility list. Everything that works in Azahar works in AzaharPlus. It is a good option specifically for users with .3ds file collections or those who cannot get system files from a real 3DS.
